I've been meaning to cover the talk about the Cups and Champions League ... it's ridiculous. The Cups are a great chance for less successful (read: not Old Firm) teams to make runs and win some hardware, like Hibs did this season, winning the League Cup even though they finished 6th in the SPL. However, winning a league cup or FA cup is a long, long way from being qualified for the Champions League. I like it how it is, with FA Cup winners going to the UEFA Cup. I could live with FA Cup and League Cup winners playing off for a UEFA Cup spot, but CL makes no sense at all to me. It waters down the Champions League with teams that will be crushed when they get there. That being said, I do believe that the SPL champions deserve more than the third-round qualifying CL spot they get now. Celtic proved that this season. Russian champs get it, we deserve it too.

I'm 100% with you Ian. Hibs and Hearts especially have no excuse for not entering the Intertoto. At worst, their players get some European experience and they are a little bit more ready for the league. At best, like you say, they make in into a legit competition.

Along the European football lines, have you checked out what Platini's up to? He wants to have the League Cup & Scottish Cup playoff for the second Champions League place. At the same time, he's offering an automatic group stage spot for the SPL Champion. The FA of course is against it. Here's the link:
