Christie departure a massive blow for Caley

By: Ian Rose | August 20th, 2007

Inverness Caley Thistle, after a promising eighth-place finish last season, has started the 2007-08 campaign in turmoil, with three straight losses to Rangers, Motherwell and St. Mirren. But that slow start is nothing compared to today’s news. At noon British time, the SPL will be holding a news conference to announce that Caley Thistle manager Charlie Christie has left the team, citing the pressure of the job. There were rumors that this might happen last season, after Caley failed to live up to Christie’s expectations, but it’s still a massive blow. There is no word yet as to who will replace Christie in Inverness, but whoever it is will have big shoes to fill. Christie is the only player to have played for both Caledonian and Inverness Thistle before the two teams merged to form Caley Thistle, and has been manager for about 18 months. We’ll miss you, Charlie, and we’ll welcome whoever replaces you, as we know you’d have us do.
