CIS Cup: Caley over Gretna, Hamilton survives

By: Ian Rose | September 25th, 2007

Today’s four CIS Cup matches are over, and 3 more SPL teams have been eliminated from the competition, with one surprise from the lower divisions surviving into the quarterfinals. First Division leading Hamilton Accies rolled over struggling Kilmarnock 2-0, for their first quarterfinal league cup spot in 26 years. Inverness Caley Thistle dispatched Gretna in the battle of the bottom two SPL sides, with the highlanders taking the match 3-0 on goals from Graham Bayne, Dennis Wyness and Barry Wilson. Hearts were equally bad hosts to Dunfermline, taking the Pars into a 1-1 extra time extension only to score three in 6 minutes to finish 4-1. The scrapper of the night came in Falkirk, as Dundee United got the only away win of the four, winning 1-0 on Lee Wilkie’s 60th-minute header. The other four quarter-finalists will be decided tomorrow night, as both of the Old Firm take on lower-division opposition.
