Cup Corner - the road to Hampden continues at, er, Hampden

By: Craig | November 28th, 2006

hampden.jpgSunshine in July. Burberry-clad neds. Colin & Justin. Also included in that veritable list of Scottish curiosities is Queen’s Park FC, the nation’s oldest football club - founded in 1867 - and key figures in establishing the rules of football. To this day they are the only league side to have remained amateur.

Most intriguingly, they continue to ply their trade at their home since 1903, Hampden Park, where crowds of 52,000 come to see the national side and showpiece Cup and European finals. Saturday’s home attendance? 543. Although to be fair, when you make a noise, it sounds like there are another 51,999 people repeating it. They face a dangerous Brechin side tonight in their continuing quest to be the first finalists with home advantage since 1900 - their last appearance in the final.
