Dorman back to Britain, from Revs to Buddies
By: Ian Rose | December 31st, 2007Earlier this year, DaMarcus Beasley came to Rangers, and before injuring his leg, made quite an impact at Ibrox. Now, another SPL side in much a worse situation, has looked to America, but not to an American, for help. Englishman Andy Dorman is on his way from the MLS’ New England Revolution to St. Mirren. The Buddies are in eleventh place in the SPL, nine points out of relegation. Their midfield has been dispossessed and bullied by most of the league this season, and they could use the help. Dorman is still in the process of deciding who he wants to be when he grows up, internationally speaking, as he identifies himself as Welsh, but remains an English citizen who at one time considered American citizenship. Maybe now, he’ll take to the rain and re-brand himself a Scot. Either way, the Buddies hopeful will welcome a change, especially with Gretna starting to take points more often, and only three matches behind.
With Dorman, the Revs won a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and made two MLS Cup finals. With finals firmly out of mind, St. Mirren would be satisfied with a cup quarterfinal and league survival this season, and perhaps Andy’s the man to help deliver them.
