Fletch has a great day at Old Trafford
By: Ian Rose | April 24th, 2007Frankly, I miss reporting on the Champions League, and since Celtic lost to a single Kaka goal in the Round of 16, all I have left is to report on Scottish players and coaches in the remaining teams. That obviously includes that most famous red-faced Scot, Sir Alex himself, but there’s also another Scot for Man U has been in good form of late and deserves attention as well, and that’s Darren Fletcher. Fletch looked fantastic against Milan today, just as he did in the 7-1 Roma trouncing, which was probably the best game I’ve seen him play. I honestly thought he might put in a goal himself, but no such luck – he was instrumental, however, in setting up Rooney for his brace of goals. A couple of my local friends that support Man United seem quite unhappy with Fletcher in general, and I realize he’s had his moments of mediocrity, but who hasn’t (Wayne Rooney, anyone?) Anyway, like him or not, you’re not exactly deep right now on the bench, Man U, so you’ll be seeing more of the redheaded Scot. This semifinal experience, and hopefully a run at the final, would be great for him to take back to the Scottish national team when they resume Euro 2008 qualifying, if Scotland boss Alex McLeish would just have the sense to call him up. Not usually a huge Manchester United supporter, I have thrown my support behind them as the most Scot-dominated team left in the contest. Go Fletch! Go Fergie! Go Man U (temporarily)!

Fletch: I’m John.
Gail Stanwyk: Ohhhh, John.
[they laugh]
Gail Stanwyk: John who?
Fletch: John Cock… tos… ton.
Gail Stanwyk: That’s a beautiful name.
Fletch: Well, it’s Scotch/Romanian.
Gail Stanwyk: That’s an odd combination.
Fletch: Yeah, well, so were my parents.Posted from
