Former Scotland boss pelted with rocks
By: Ian Rose | June 3rd, 2007With the Faroe Islands game coming up this week, I hate to even think of Berti Vogts, the manager that led Scotland to a 2-2 draw with the tiny island nation … but this is just too much …
Ouch. I was never a huge Vogts fan, but some fans in Nigeria, where he now coaches the national team, have taken their dislike a bit further. At the end of their 2-1 loss to Uganda in an African Nations qualifying match, fans began pelting Nigeria’s players, and Berti, with rocks and missiles from the stands. Apparently, the team had to spend an hour locked in the locker room after the match while police broke up the mob.
Just a reminder the next time you complain about a Chelsea fan hitting you with a stalk of celery at the Carling Cup.
There are worse things.
Seriously, though, apparently no one was hurt, so Berti can go on traveling the world and inspiring lackluster performances from his players and violent attacks from their fans.
