Franco Miranda gets a rare trifecta
By: Ian Rose | September 2nd, 2007Celtic got just about what they expected from their trip to St. Mirren today, beating the Buddies to the tune of 5-1, and keeping up with Rangers in terms of both points (both got three this week) and goal differential (both got +4 this week). The real story for me was the performance of one Franco Miranda, the St. Mirren defender who got a rare triple in this match by first scoring an own-goal, then scoring a real goal, then getting a yellow card. Good (?) job, Franco - at least the Buddies got on the board, and manage to equal their 5-1 defeat to Celtic in January. Celtic moves up to second place in the league, two points behind Rangers, who remain perfect at 15 points in five matches. Next week is the international break as Scotland takes on Lithuania in Euro 2008 qualifying, and when SPL action returns, we’ll see Celtic hosting league bottom side Inverness and Rangers heading to the surprisingly welcoming fields of Tynecastle, where Hearts have been atrocious so far this season. I expect both to win well, and the two-point margin to hold up at least another fortnight.
