Goalfests in Scotland

By: Ian Rose | April 28th, 2007

Well, the overall standings are pretty much cemented - Celtic has won the SPL, Rangers need only one more point to solidify their hold on second, etc. But that didn’t stop the league from having one of its highest-scoring days of the year today. There were two 3-3 ties. Hibs hosted Rangers, and even with a brace of goals from Charlie Adam, Rangers only managed the draw. Falkirk and Motherwell played out the other 6-goaler, which Motherwell might have gotten away with had it not been for an own-goal by defender Stephen Craigan. Elsewhere in the league, Aberdeen put their stamp on the third-place spot in the SPL with a convincing 3-0 win over Kilmarnock. The Killie loss, along with the Hibs draw, puts Hibs into fifth position with three games left. Dundee United and Inverness Caley Thistle played to a 1-1 draw at Dundee, with Caley getting a second-half equalizer from probable team MVP of the season, Graham Bayne. Nice to get a good bit of scoring this late in the season - obviously some of it due to shoddy defending, especially in the case of Craigan, but still, it’s good for the fans to see some goals now that all is just about decided and done in Scotland.
