Good lad, Darren … McCormack to stay with Hibs
By: Ian Rose | May 4th, 2007Hibernian defender Darren McCormack is one of the precious few players in Scotland today that seems to value his club and its fans more than a fat check from Glasgow. One of the main reasons that the SPL is the two-headed dragon that it is, with the Old Firm so completely dominating the rest, is that seemingly every player in Scotland wants to play for Celtic and Rangers. As soon as any player in any SPL team has a good season or two, the two Glasgow giants rush in, checkbooks in hand, and wisk them away to Parkhead or Ibrox. Very few have enough team loyalty these days to say, “Thanks guys, I appreciate the interest, but I’m happy where I am”
That’s exactly what Darren McCormack did this week, turning down a lucrative offer from Celtic and signing a new 5-year deal with Hibs. He grew up as a Hibs fan and wishes to remain at Leith and help them get back into European competition.
Hats off to you, Darren, and good luck on your return to first-team football. I wish more SPL sides (especially the Caley Thistle) had more like you.
