Good Weekend/Bad Weekend

By: Craig | November 27th, 2006

goodbad23.jpgGood weekend for…

Hibs fans – not the dream win but a stunning first-half against Celtic. Some say John Collins and Tommy Craig just have to say “more of the same, please.” Maybe so, but the management team have still to taste their first defeat.

Valdas IvanauskasFormula One’s loss is Hearts’ gain as the Great Dictator decides to give stability a chance.

Charlie Adam – Go on, amid the summer shopping spree, how many Rangers fans out there honestly thought the returning young Chas would make such an impact? Three goals from midfield and counting…

Bad weekend for…

Gus Macpherson – hardly a sin to lose narrowly to a reborn Arabs side, but having silenced the critics early in the season, a fourth defeat in six places the Buddies in dangerous territory.

Romance in football – Jumpers for goalposts? Forget it! With a 4-0 hammering of Thistle, Gretna once again proved that money shouts. Loudly.

A draw against Celtic is pretty much a win this year. We’ll take it.

Can someone have a good week and a bad week?

I’d nominate Neil Lennon who showed the best and worst of his game in hauling Celtic back into it on Sunday.

But as I mention in my Scottish Football Blog – he provided a lesson that might make some young Hibs midfielders think about the future!

I’ve been saying for more than two years that I thoroughly dislike Gretna for doing a Fulham/Livingston/Chelski (ok, they had to make an appearance in this list, I suppose), and merely paying a lot of money for players better than the division they’re in and buying up players that their opposition are interested in (a long-defined old firm tradition). Even in the midst of the ‘cup romance’ they experienced last year, I was a lone voice in the wilderness, crying ‘Gretna will kill the Scottish Lower League game.’

Good to hear a fellow voice of dissent. But then, I may just be an embittered jags fan. Sigh.
