Hail the Fifers!
By: Ian Rose | September 1st, 2007
Ladies and Gentlemen of world soccer fandom, I would like to introduce East Fife F.C. Though I’ve slacked a bit on my “Know Your Minnows” column over at the UEFA Cup blog, I thought this little Scottish side deserved some attention, and here’s why. Not only has East Fife started their Scottish Third Division campaign with four straight wins (just like Rangers in the top flight), but they also became the first side to knock an SPL team out of the League Cup this season, beating St. Mirren this past week. The Fifers are no strangers to upsets, having won the Scottish Cup in 1938 to become the only winner ever from the Second Division. They also have three League Cups in their trophy case, all from the late 40s and early 50s. Though they have dropped down to the Third, they look like odds-on favorites to get back up. Formed in 1903, East Fife hails from the town of Methil, on beautiful Largo Bay.
Congratulations to East Fife F.C. on their strong start - let’s hope they can make it last.

Minor edit: Fifers are now on 15 points in 5 matches. Still perfect in Division Three.
