Hibees (finally) get a win, and Buddies advance in the Cup
By: Ian Rose | February 13th, 2008After literally months without a league win, Hibernian has finally gotten a positive result, and against … guess who? That’s right. Gretna. Hibs went ten league matches without a win, more than a quarter of the whole season. In fact, it has been since October 6th, fifteen league matches ago, that Hibs beat anyone other than Gretna. A win against a team that has, themselves, admitted a slide into relegation may not be much consolation after such a horrible run, but they desperately need the points, and they’ll take them wherever they come. Steven Fletcher got himself a hat trick in this one, as Hibs took the match 4-2 at Easter Road.
Meanwhile, in today’s only Scottish Cup match, Dundee United hosted St. Mirren for a place in the quarterfinals against St. Johnstone. The Buddies won themselves a trip to an all-Saints quarter, on the strength of Andy Dorman’s first goal since transferring from the New England Revolution this winter.
Nice wins for the Hibees and Buddies. United now has on their plate only the league, where they remain third-place for now above struggling Motherwell, and the league cup, where they face Rangers in the final next month.
