Hibs on top of SPL … for another 22 hours

Hibernian Football Club is now, right now, at the top of the Scottish Premier League table, after beating Rangers today 1-0 at Ibrox. Rangers gave up their first home points of the season, dropping a goal to David Murphy. The English defender netted his first of the season, and his third as a Hibee, and what a time to do it. Hibernian now lead Celtic and Rangers by two points, and have proven to all doubters that they are, in fact, for real this season. They have beaten both of the Old Firm, and beaten Rangers at home. Edinburgh, at least one side of Edinburgh, will be rocking tonight.

Celtic, however, have every likelihood of making this particular stay on the top a short one for Hibs. They play bottom side Gretna tomorrow afternoon, and I would be shocked if they left any points down at Fir Park. However, tonight belongs to the Hibees, who now have in their sights a repeat of what cross-town rivals Hearts did in 2005 … breaking the Old Firm and grabbing a Champions League spot.
