McNamara back in the SPL
By: Ian Rose | May 17th, 2007Some welcome news today for SPL fans as Jackie McNamara is headed back to Scotland. PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 1998 and Writers’ Footballer of the Year in 2004, Jackie is best known in Scotland for his years at Celtic, where he was briefly captain before leaving for England. He has played the last two seasons for Wolves, but announced today that he has agreed to a 2-year contract with Aberdeen. From statements made about the deal to the Scotsman, it sounds very much like he wants this to be his final professional contract.
A former Scotland international with 33 caps, Jackie played on the 1998 World Cup side. At 33 years old, he may be a bit out of his prime, but he’ll still be worth a look, and is a great pickup for Aberdeen. Welcome home to Scotland, Jackie - good to have you back where you belong.
