Middlesbrough to raid SPL?
By: Ian Rose | May 14th, 2007Plenty of blogs, including this one, have reported on Middlesbrough’s interest in Hibernian midfielder Scott Brown, but it appears the Brough will be shopping around quite a bit north of the border in preparation for their 2007-08 Premiership season. They are one of three clubs linked to Hearts and Scotland keeper Craig Gordon, who announced after this weekend’s Edinburgh derby victory over Hibs that he knew where he was headed, but apparently he’s not quite ready to announce it yet. As far as I see it, any Premiership interest in the SPL is a good thing. The smaller clubs in the league already lose their players to the Old Firm anyway - losing them to Premiership sides is better in that it exposes them to a much higher level of play, and increases the reputation of SPL talent. I’m especially happy about seeing Gordon play in the EPL, since it should be great for his development as Scotland’s #1. We’ll need him solid between those posts if we’re to make a successful Euro 2008 run, and World Cup qualifiers aren’t that far away either. So, we’ll see if all these Brough rumors pan out - my money’s on them taking both Brown and Gordon, but time will tell.

I think you could be right about Gordon. Maybe Steven Naismith might be on their radar aswell from Kilmarnock but hopefully the lure of the Old Firm doesn’t get him. A sure fire way to hindering his development in becoming a great player would be to move to the Old Firm, who has done it recently and became better for it? Short answer, no one really.

It was in the Daily Star today that Everton are leading the way for Scott Brown’s signature which is probably more likely as their in the Uefa Cup and have a few other Scots playing for them to. Heres hoping that he gets his chance at a big club. Great player with a great future!
