MLS for Prso?
By: Ian Rose | March 29th, 2007There is talk today that Dado Prso, who has one of my hands-down favorite names in the SPL, will be leaving Rangers at the end of this season and may be interested in a move to America. The Croatian striker is no spring chicken, at 32, and seems to be worried about his chances at finishing his career healthy in the SPL, an intensely physical league. He’s only managed four goals in twenty-four starts with Rangers this season, but has been battling a bad knee that may never be 100% again. So, who’s going to go looking for a past-his-prime striker with a slight limp? He might not be a great starter, but he’s looking for a place to finish his career, and possibly to teach and influence younger players. At that, he might have some real value. The MLS needs to start thinking a bit more like the NFL, where it’s not uncommon at all to give relatively modest contracts to aging or injury-prone former stars in order to help bring up your next generation. Prso, after all, has played in some of the top leagues in Europe, and played in a Champions League final match with Monaco just three years ago. I believe that Dado could accept that role - the question is, will he be willing to accept the pay cut that comes along with it? He has also mentioned the possibility of a move to Asia, which has been a more traditional place for European stars to end their careers, but here’s hoping someone in the MLS sees the value in him and takes a chance on the investment in team development that comes with bringing in a player like this.

I’d very much like to see him in the MLS, he’s still got it. Pssst, Dado. Pick Toronto.
