Naismith capped … about damned time …

By: Ian Rose | June 1st, 2007

Great news, for me, Scotland, and our reader Spooner.

SPL Young Player of the Year Steven Naismith has been given his first senior team nod for Wednesday’s game against Faroe Islands. The Kilmarnock star generally plays at striker for Killie, but has played midfield and is an excellent substitute choice for his ability to play both well.

Fans all over Scotland have been calling for Naismith’s cap for a long time. He impressed fans all over the league this season, and has already scored for Scotland at both the Under-21 and B-team levels. His form this season has been excellent, including a fantastic hat trick for Killie that gave them a 3-0 win over Falkirk in the CIS Cup. (Killie at least has that game to keep them warm this off-season … best not to think about the cup final.)

Great choice, Eck - good to have the lad on board.
