Rangers’ midfield coming together: Adam and Beasley signed
By: Ian Rose | June 28th, 2007As an Scot-American who is fond of both of my countries, I love to see Scots make it in US soccer (like this year’s MLS All Star coach) as well as vice versa, so it was my great pleasure to see that US international winger DeMarcus Beasley finally put pen to paper and made it official with Rangers. He’s struggled with injuries, and he’ll have his share of problems as a relatively small player in a physical league like the SPL, but his pace will be welcome in Ibrox, and I think we’ll see him making a more serious contribution than he did at PSV. The other big Rangers news is that they have signed young star midfielder Charlie Adam to a new five-year deal. They’ve done well to lock up Adam, who was an important part of their successful European season. He scored twice in the group stage of the UEFA Cup last season, on the way to Rangers’ Round-of-16 finish, and, perhaps more importantly to fans, scored against Celtic in a home win last season as well. With Beasley on the way in and Adam locked up for a while, the Rangers midfield is looking somewhat secure. Time will tell if they can have a realistic shot at Julien Faubert or Lee McCulloch.
