Scotland 16th, and rising?

Specifically, I’ll be covering the SPL, Scottish leagues and Scotland national side for Offside. If you have any direct questions for me, please leave a comment and I’ll either take it into account or completely ignore it based on its merits and how I’m feeling at the moment.
Today’s issue: a welcome piece of news from FIFA that Scotland has achieved its highest rankings in the history of FIFA’s ranking system, and we now sit in 16th spot. We’re bunched up between Sweden and Switzerland (there are worse countries to be nudged by). The question is, how much farther up can we move? With Euro 2008 qualifying going very well and our upcoming match against fairly soft Georgia (which also happens to be the Unofficial World Championship), could we break the top 15, or even 12?
It will depend, of course, less on beating up on poor little Georgia than on our performance next week vs. Italy. The Italians are the world #2 and sit just 2 points behind France and Scotland in the group table. If we can manage at least a draw against them, on their pitch, it will be a huge step in regaining a bit of honor and respect from our European neighbors, especially those closest neighbors to the South.

Would love to see the day when Scotland are ranked higher than England but visions of Faroe Islands loses still fill my head.
