Scotland NT to face South Africa
By: Ian Rose | July 18th, 2007This is turning out to be a very happy day for your friendly neighborhood Scotland blogger. First, I get to report on a new striker for my club team, Caley Thistle. Now, my national side, the Scotland NT, is going to give me another chance to see them in action. I was already planning on attending (and blogging) the Scotland-Lithuania Euro 2008 qualifier on September 8th in Glasgow. Now, news comes down the wire today that we’ll be playing a friendly before the qualies start back up. Scotland will host South Africa in Aberdeen’s Pittodrie Stadium on August 22nd. Since I’ll be in nearby Inverness, I will certainly be railing it over and covering this match as well. It should be a nice little tune-up for the Euro qualifiers, and will be especially sweet for Scotland manager Alex McLeish, who made his name as an Aberdeen defender. Big Eck scored 25 goals in just under 500 appearances for the Dons (not bad for a central defender), and was an important part of the Aberdeen glory teams of Sir Alex Ferguson. The Pittodrie fans, and the rest of the Tartan Army, will undoubtedly welcome Eck back with a roar.
