The Goal That Got Us Dreaming
By: Ian Rose | June 9th, 2007Now that the international season is over and all the lads are taking their vacations, I wanted to take a look back at Scotland’s season. The one moment that most defined it for Tartan Army faithful like myself was this goal - this was the goal that made us believe we could compete in Euro 2008 Group B, the group of death, a group with the world cup champions, the world cup runner-up, and a world-cup quarter-finalist. When that group was announced, we thought the worst, but Gary Caldwell’s goal over France in October, the only goal in our 1-0 victory, brought us back and made us all believe we could make a run. I don’t know if we’ll make the finals - the odds are still against it - but here’s a look at the goal that made it, at least, possible. Nothing spectacular, no major heroics - just a workmanlike performance off of a set piece - appropriate for the hardest working team in the world.
(I also thought this would be appropriate today, since JT over at the Celtic Offside is profiling Celtic defenders today, of which Caldwell is an important one)
