The Top Flight Tussle - Hearts v Rangers
By: Craig | November 17th, 2006
The title may be all but wrapped up (a win over Inverness this weekend will mean Celtic have beaten every SPL side this season already) but the rest of the table is tight as a drum. Those teams on 22 points - Rangers, Hearts and Aberdeen - are closer to Dunfermline than they are to the league leaders, while no side other than the Hoops is guaranteed to hold down their current position by Sunday evening.
Nowhere is this better illustrated than in the weekend’s undisputed highlight - Hearts v Rangers on Sunday afternoon, a match worthy of Setanta’s attention even if it were to be played in Glasgow. It is a must-win for two sides that are not behaving like the title challengers they purported to be back in those heady days of summer (exhibit A: we await any suggestion from Hearts that Steven Pressley will return). It is a strong indicator of the league’s competitiveness - or perhaps both of these teams’ clattiness - that either side could feasibly drop to 5th place by 4pm. So much for the battle for 2nd…
May the least worst side win!
