The Top Flight Tussle - Hibs v Celtic
By: Craig | November 24th, 2006
There are evergreen footballers, and there are ever green footballers. John Collins slips comfortably into the latter, having given six stellar seasons to both Hibs and Celtic. On Sunday he welcomes to Easter Road the Glasgow side who, like Hibs, are on something of a roll.
Far from breaking down under the pressure of succeeding Tony Mowbray, Collins has excelled. Aesthetically-pleasing the football remains, but with it has come results, with the Hibees unbeaten in all competitions since his arrival. Another stab at European football would not be a fanciful prospect if they continue in this vein.
You don’t have to be a mathematician to recognise Celtic’s domestic dominance - and you have to have lived in Uzbekistan in the last week to know that they’ve done quite well in another tournament - but the big European nights are frequently succeeded by a 90-minute non-appearance. If both sides turn up, however, it should be a contest to savour.
