The Top Flight Tussle - St Mirren v Hearts
By: Craig | December 1st, 2006
Any game the Jambos play at Love Street is bound to be a headline writer’s delight. But tomorrow ain’t the 14th of February and these are two sides whose heart’s desire is nothing less than three points.
The Buddies hadn’t exactly been going through a purple patch of late, but last Saturday’s defeat to Dundee United, coupled with Motherwell’s home win over Falkirk, pulled them right into the thick of the relegation slog. Disappointing after such a creditable start to the season, though perhaps unsurprising for a club of their resources. That momentum has now switched to Dundee United, suddenly a winning side under Craig Levein, and perhaps Dunfermline, who may yet get that boost in results that new managers can bring. The wrong pair of results tomorrow would see the Pars come within a point of Gus Macpherson’s men.
Hearts this weekend are an intriguing prospect. Ivanauskas may be another Lithuanian like the rest of them, but he did the business when given the reins last season and you suspect he might have the players’ trust. Certainly the returning Michal Pospisil’s words today suggest more rejuvenation and less rotation in the Hearts camp. They could do with it. October was a day old the last time the supposed Champions League contenders took three points and they have fifth place to show for it.
