update on Motherwell’s UEFA Cup efforts
By: j | September 8th, 2008With the international break finally behind us, things are about to heat up at a dizzying pace as UEFA Cup and Champions League matches commence.
With Celtic heading towards Champions League in Group E with the likes Manchester United, La Liga’s Villarreal and Danish club Aalborg BK and following the Rangers falling out of European efforts after falling to Lithuania’s FBK Kaunas, the only other SPL entry in the UEFA Cup is Motherwell.
Motherwell faces a stern test against Frances Ligue 1 AS Nancy-Lorraine. Managed by Uruguayan Pablo Correa, Nancy narrowly missed a Champions League spot, losing their final match of the campaign to Stade Rennais. It has been a difficult start to the Ligue 1 season for the squad from the beautiful north-easter region of France, as their attack was only able to generate a single goal in the first three matches. However just before the break they were able to squeeze out a narrow victory over Le Havre and possibly beginning to solve their offensive woes.
In the upcoming week, we’ll be previewing Motherwell’s UEFA Cup bid in support of their efforts.
