Your Saturday SPL Scores
By: Ian Rose | October 25th, 2008All twelve SPL sides played this Saturday, in the tenth round of the SPL, and there are a few surprises, but not many.
Celtic 4-2 Hibernian
It’s been a rough season for Steven McManus, both for country and club, but he started his Hoops off well today and opened a lead that Celtic would almost surrender. Fellow Scotland man Steven Fletcher evened things up at two apiece in the 50th, but it was once again Glenn Loovens with a clutch finish, and Scott Brown got in on the party as well. All in all, not a bad day for Scotland internationals.
Dundee United 2-0 St. Mirren
This one will sting for the Buddies. When you’re fighting for your survival in the top flight, the last thing you need is to hold things even for 85 minutes on the road, only to give up two in the final five minutes. They’ll want a point of this one back, and they might grow to miss that point quite a lot as the season wears on.
Hamilton 1-3 Rangers
A week after famously abandoning his country (or at least its manager), Kris Boyd proved his club form is still strong, finishing a penalty just before halftime and another from open play just after the interval as Rangers overcame an early Accies goal to dominate recently hapless Hamilton.
Hearts 1-1 Aberdeen
As I’ve said in the Caley blog here, if you’re from the far northlands this season, you’re just better on the road than at home and that’s all there is to it. Another good road result from the Dons, this time taking a point from Hearts at Tynecastle.
Inverness 1-2 Motherwell
Speaking of bad home form up north. Caley fans (myself included) have wanted more goals from strikers all season, but we might end up wanting that wish back. The last two weeks, we’ve had goals from strikers, last week from Garry Wood and this week from Adam Rooney. Both 2-1 losses at home. Midfielders, forget what I said – start netting again.
Kilmarnock 1-2 Falkirk
Maybe the surprise of the week, considering that Killie is the shock side in terms of positive performances this season and Falkirk the corresponding one in the negative column. Killie got a last-minute consolation goal, but this one was all Falkirk, and it takes them off the bottom.
